Is Runna worth it?

It depends on one thing: whether you finish plans as written. If you do, Runna is worth the money. If your weeks get interrupted, you will fight it.

Do you finish plans as written?

If yes — you train consistently, your schedule is stable, and a missed session is rare — Runna is worth it. The plans are well built, the community is real, and it is on Android.

If no — shift work, kids, travel, an injury history — then the cost is not the problem. The rigidity is. A plan that assumes you did not miss a week is a plan you will fall behind and abandon, at any price.

That is the whole decision. Everything below is only there so you can check the arithmetic behind it.

What the subscription actually costs

Runna is $19.99 a month, or $119.99 a year on its own published pricing, checked on 25 July 2026. There is a free trial and no permanently free tier. The annual plan works out at $10.00 a month, which is the number to compare against — paying monthly for a sixteen-week training block costs about $80, paying annually costs $119.99 for the whole year.

For context, our own app is $12.99 a month with a 7-day trial. We are cheaper monthly and more expensive across a full year, and we would rather say that than let you find out.

When to choose Runna instead

Runna is worth the money if you finish plans as written, if you are on Android, or if a large community is part of what keeps you turning up. It is also the better answer if you want an annual plan — we do not sell one, and $119.99 a year is less than twelve months of Runsy. Buy it on those grounds, not because it is the app everyone has heard of.

The test that costs nothing

Before you subscribe to anything, look back at the last eight weeks you tried to train. Count the weeks where you did every session you intended to. If it is most of them, a static plan will serve you well and Runna is a good one. If it is half of them, you are not looking for a better plan — you are looking for something that survives the half you miss.

Fair questions

Is Runna worth the money?

If you complete structured plans as written, yes. If your training weeks are regularly interrupted, the plan's rigidity will cost you more than its price.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Runna?

Runsy is $12.99/mo. Free options like Nike Run Club exist but do not build an adaptive plan.
