Runsy

Runna vs Strava: do you need both?

Strava owns Runna. Strava records runs and Runna builds the plan. What each costs, the $149.99 bundle, and when one of them is all you need.

You need both only if you want a training plan and Strava's paid features. Strava records and shares your runs; Runna builds the training plan. Strava owns Runna and sells the two together for $149.99 a year in the US. Runna alone is $19.99 a month or $119.99 a year, and Strava's free tier still records your runs, so Runna plus free Strava is the cheapest way to use both apps.

Prices checked on 10 October 2026 on Runna's pricing page, Strava's subscription page and both apps' App Store listings. US prices before tax.

How to choose between them

Pay for Runna alone if you want a training plan and Strava's free tier covers your logging: $119.99 a year is the cheapest way to have both apps. Pay for Strava alone if you already know what to run and want routes, segments and deeper analysis. Buy the $149.99 bundle only if you would pay for both anyway: it saves $49.99 against the two annual plans and $233.77 against paying both monthly for a year.

They do different jobs

Runna prescribes. It builds a plan toward a goal, from Couch to 5K to ultramarathon, and tells you what to run each day.

Strava records. It logs what you did and shares it with the people who follow you. Its paid subscription adds routes, segment leaderboards and advanced training analysis. Strava's own subscription page lists training plans as something you get by adding Runna.

The two connect: Runna lists “Connect with Strava” among the features of its own subscription, so your Runna runs can appear on Strava without the bundle.

Do you need both?

  1. 01

You want a plan, and free Strava is enough

Pay for Runna only: $119.99 a year, or $19.99 a month. Keep Strava's free tier for recording runs and the community. That is the cheapest way to have both apps.

  2. 02

You want a plan, and you already pay for Strava

Look at the bundle. It is $149.99 a year for both, against $199.98 for the two annual plans bought separately. It is annual only and is sold through Strava, not Runna.

  3. 03

You already know what to run

You may not need Runna at all. Strava's subscription, $11.99 a month or $79.99 a year, adds routes, segments and analysis, and its free tier records every run.

  4. 04

You do not want either subscription

Strava's free tier records your runs. Free training plans exist elsewhere, for example in Nike Run Club and Garmin Coach.

What Strava owning Runna changes

Strava announced its agreement to buy Runna on 17 April 2025, and its CEO said then: “Our plan is to keep the apps separate for the foreseeable future.” They are still two apps with two subscriptions. Runna's App Store listing now names Strava Inc. as the seller, and since July 2025 Strava has sold both as one annual subscription.

What has not happened is Runna being folded into Strava's subscription. Strava's App Store listing sells the Strava subscription and the Strava + Runna subscription as separate purchases, so paying for Strava alone does not include Runna.

How the bundle works

The bundle is $149.99 a year in the US and there is no monthly option. You buy it through Strava's website or app; Runna's guide says it is not available directly through Runna. New Strava users who have never had a trial of either app can start with a 30-day free trial, which Runna says is rolling out on iOS first.

If you already pay for Runna, Strava's FAQ says cancelling it to move to the bundle does not affect your training plan. Billing, refunds and payment problems for the bundle are handled by Strava.

Against paying both apps monthly for a year ($383.76), the bundle saves $233.77, which is the “up to 60%” in Strava's announcement. Against the two annual plans ($199.98) it saves $49.99.

If neither is quite right

Runsy is a third option, and we make it, so weigh this accordingly. It is an iPhone-only training app at $12.99 a month after a 7-day free trial, with no annual plan and no free tier. It builds the plan from your Apple Health history and reads Strava runs through Apple Health. It does not replace Strava's feed. The terms are on our Runsy pricing page.

Fair questions

Do you get Strava Premium with Runna?

Not with a Runna subscription on its own. The Strava + Runna bundle, $149.99 a year in the US, includes both Strava's subscription and Runna Premium.

Is Runna included with a Strava subscription?

No. A Strava subscription, $11.99 a month or $79.99 a year, does not include Runna. Only the Strava + Runna bundle includes both.

Can you pay for Strava and Runna monthly?

Separately, yes: Runna is $19.99 a month and Strava is $11.99 a month, $31.98 together. The Strava + Runna bundle is annual only.

How does Runna sync with Strava?

Runna lists “Connect with Strava” among the features of its own subscription, so you connect the accounts in Runna and your runs appear on Strava. You do not need the bundle for that.

Is Runna owned by Strava?

Yes. Strava announced its agreement to acquire Runna on 17 April 2025, and Strava Inc. is now the seller on Runna's App Store listing. The two remain separate apps.

Is there a Strava + Runna family plan?

Strava's help center suggests not: for Family Plan members it says you can cancel the Family Plan and upgrade to the Strava + Runna subscription, or subscribe to Runna separately.
