Runna app review

We build a competing app, so read this knowing that. Runna is genuinely good at structured plans and community. Where it struggles is the week you miss a run.

Runna and Runsy, side by side

The disclosure above is worth something only if we show our own numbers next to theirs, so here they are first. Both figures come from the two companies' own published pricing, checked on 25 July 2026.

When to choose Runna instead

Choose Runna if you are on Android, if you want your runs flowing into Strava automatically, or if training alongside a large community is part of what keeps you going. Its content library is bigger than ours and its plans are properly periodised. If those are what you are shopping for, the price difference is not the deciding factor and you should buy Runna.

What Runna does well

Runna's plans are properly structured — real periodisation, sensible progression, and workouts that explain themselves. The community and challenges are a genuine reason people stay, and the content library is bigger than ours.

If you want a plan built by people who clearly run, it is a good buy.

Where it struggles

The same thing every static plan struggles with: the week you miss. A plan generated on day one assumes you complete it.

Miss a week to illness, travel or work and you are left deciding whether to skip the missed sessions, repeat them, or restart — which is the moment most people quit a plan entirely. That decision is the product problem, and no amount of plan quality on day one solves it.

This is the one row in the table above that is not a matter of taste. Everything else — Android, Strava, community — is a feature you either want or do not. The interrupted week is a failure mode you will meet whether you wanted to or not.

Who it is for

Runners who will follow a structured plan as written, want it on Android, and value training alongside a large community.

If your weeks are regularly interrupted, read is Runna worth it before subscribing — the answer turns on that, not on price.

How to cancel before you are charged

Both apps bill through the App Store, so cancelling works the same way for either: open your Apple ID subscription settings, find the app, cancel. Access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for, and cancelling inside a free trial costs nothing.

The trial is the only honest way to answer whether a plan app is worth it to you specifically. Set a calendar reminder for the day before it ends and decide then, not now.

Fair questions

Is Runna worth it?

If you will follow a structured plan as written and want community features, yes. If your schedule breaks plans, the rigidity is the thing that will frustrate you.

Is Runna good for beginners?

Yes — the plans start gently and each session explains its purpose. Beginners are also the group most likely to miss weeks, which is where a static plan hurts most.

What is the main downside of Runna?

It does not rebuild your plan around the sessions you actually completed. Miss a week and you decide what to do next, rather than the app deciding for you.

Does Runna have a free version?

No. There is a free trial, then a paid subscription is required.

How do I cancel a Runna subscription?

Through your Apple ID subscription settings if you subscribed via the App Store. Access continues to the end of the paid period.

How much does Runna cost?

$19.99 a month or $119.99 a year, from Runna's own published pricing, checked 25 July 2026. There is a free trial and no permanently free tier. Paid monthly for a full year that is $239.88, against $155.88 for Runsy at $12.99/mo — but Runna's annual plan at $119.99 is cheaper than either, and we do not sell one.
