1:30 half marathon pace
A 1:30 half marathon is 6:52 per mile or 4:16 per km, with 10K at 42:40. Every mile and km split, the arithmetic, and how to train for it.

Cumulative clock time at each mile marker, at perfectly even pace over 21.0975 km. Nobody runs even splits and nobody should try to; use these as the line you are measuring drift against, not as an instruction. The difference between the number here and the number on your watch is information — a minute up at 15 km is a race you are about to lose.

The pace, and the arithmetic
A 1:30 half marathon is 6:52 per mile, or 4:16 per kilometre, held for 13.1 miles (21.0975 km). On even pace you pass 10 km at 42:40 and 10 miles at 1:08:39. To finish under 1:30, run 6:51 per mile, which finishes in 1:29:48.
How the numbers are worked out
- 1:30:00 is 5,400 seconds.
- Per mile: 5,400 ÷ 13.1094 miles = 411.9 s = 6:52.
- Per kilometre: 5,400 ÷ 21.0975 km = 256.0 s = 4:16.
- At 10 km: 5,400 × 10 ÷ 21.0975 = 2,559.5 s = 42:40.
- At 10 miles: 5,400 × 10 ÷ 13.1094 = 4,119.2 s = 1:08:39.
- At 20 km: 5,400 × 20 ÷ 21.0975 = 5,119.1 s = 1:25:19.
- Speed: 13.1094 miles ÷ 1.5 h = 8.74 mph (14.06 km/h).
Every split on this page uses one formula: goal seconds × distance covered ÷ race distance, rounded to the nearest second. A mile is 1.609344 km, so the half marathon is 13.1094 miles.

Where 1:30 sits in the field
RunRepeat's finish-time percentiles (35M results across 28,000+ races, as printed on our average half marathon time page) place 1:30:00 between the fastest 1% (1:23:59) and the fastest 10% (1:47:10) of all finishers. For men it sits between the fastest 1% (1:18:37) and the fastest 10% (1:40:35); for women, faster than the 1:35:55 that marks the fastest 1%.
Read the other way: 1:30 beats more than 90% of all finishers in that data, and a woman running it is faster than the 1:35:55 that marks the fastest 1% of women.
Neighbouring goals: 1:45 half marathon pace (8:01 per mile) and 2-hour half marathon pace (9:09). Every finish time from 1:20 to 2:45 is on the half marathon pace chart.
How to train for a sub-1:30 half marathon
Check the goal before you train for it. Riegel's formula, T2 = T1 × (D2 ÷ D1)^1.06 (Riegel, American Scientist 69(3), 1981), says 1:30:00 for the half marathon is worth:
- 10K: 5,400 × (10 ÷ 21.0975)^1.06 = 2,447 s = 40:47.
- Marathon: 5,400 × (42.195 ÷ 21.0975)^1.06 = 11,259 s = 3:07:39.
The 10K figure is the useful check: a recent 10K near 40:47 is the evidence that 1:30 is within reach. The marathon figure assumes marathon training on top of half-marathon fitness, so read it as a best case. Run your own recent result through the race time predictor, and use the VDOT calculator to turn it into training paces.
Then pick a plan. Sub-1:30 is the advanced end of the half marathon: it asks for an established base and two quality sessions a week, which is what the advanced level assumes. The free 12-week advanced half marathon plan is 5 runs a week with two quality sessions, peaking at 55 km with a 23 km long run, with cutback weeks and a taper. If you are earlier in the climb, the intermediate 12-week plan runs four days a week.
Stop calculating. Start training.

Fair questions
What pace is a 1:30 half marathon?
6:52 per mile, or 4:16 per kilometre: 5,400 seconds ÷ 13.1094 miles = 411.9 s, and ÷ 21.0975 km = 256.0 s. You pass 10K at 42:40 and 20K at 1:25:19.
Is 1 hour 45 minutes a good time for a half marathon?
Yes, by the published numbers. RunRepeat's finish-time percentiles (35M results) put the fastest 10% of half marathon finishers at 1:47:10 or better, so 1:45 is inside the fastest 10%. A 1:30 is faster still, between the fastest 1% (1:23:59) and the fastest 10%.
What is the average pace for running a sub-2 hour half marathon?
9:09 per mile, or 5:41 per kilometre, passing 10K at 56:53.
What pace is a 1:35 half marathon?
7:15 per mile, or 4:30 per kilometre, passing 10K at 45:02.
What 10K time do you need for a 1:30 half marathon?
About 40:47 by Riegel's formula: 5,400 × (10 ÷ 21.0975)^1.06. That assumes you have done the long runs; without them, the half will come in slower.
